This is my favorite playlist for waiting in the TSA line. When others are getting all antsy, I can be in my happy place. Album art was made with a photo of Maripol’s Sade photo I made at Beyond The Streets in Los Angeles and a photoshopped font. My first website was called MyDefinitionOfCool; I graduated to League Of Super Producers in 2017 but have been bumping this playlist since way back then.
120 Minutes
Saturday night is a good a night as any to release my 120 Minutes Spotify playlist. I’ve been enjoying this for at least a year already and finally settled on the #MFDALÍ album art minutes ago. This is almost thirty hours of music that was on the MTV show 120 Minutes back in the day or would have been on it if it was still kickin’… curated exactly to my tastes as usual. Fortunately, the music AND the music videos remain as awesome as always. As one would expect from someone who made their own music video encyclopedia, I do have a 120 Minutes YouTube playlist also if you’re ready to experience the visual joy of 90s music videos and beyond.
For fans of The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Björk, INXS, The Cardigans, Underworld, Radiohead, Everything But The Girl, New Order, DJ Shadow, Jane’s Addiction, LCD Soundsystem, The Knife, Iggy Pop, MF DOOM, Tricky, Damon Albarn, and hundreds more.
Vol. 1 MyDefinitionOfCOOL
My newest playlist of the new(ish) songs I’ve loved enough to overplay already…
September Spotify Playlist
These days I’m aiming for the sky and marveling how close I get. This playlist was supposed to be 111 songs but I went for quality over quantity. Most of the songs are newly released but I’m having a moment with a Lootpack album and had to throw in some Aretha for good measure.
Adult Contemporary Jams
If we're gonna be 100% honest with each other, you were gonna find out eventually that I like some music I once thought to be embarrassing. Now that I'm 40, I'm just gonna go ahead and tell whoever is listening that I like Bruce Hornsby. If you don't understand Hornsby's draw or can't relate at all, that may just be because you're not 40 yet. As you age, you may find that there is a time and a place for every song you once thought was uncool and that you don't give a fuck if someone laughs at you for loving a song. We will all live better lives if we're able to embrace our inner Hornsby fan.
The playlist is mostly songs made in to 1970s-1990s but I did include some more current songs that I believe fans of the classic Adult Contemporary jams will also love. There will be an even more CONTEMPORARY adult playlist coming out in the next few weeks titled VH2018 that contains music I'd play on VH1 if I got to curate the videos (and they still played music). I've found this playlist to work extremely well on road trips and/or when you need an escape from your current reality. I will say that I'm not ashamed to love this music but that I strategically posted this playlist AFTER the Hip Hop playlist as to not let y'all get it twisted.
✂️Make Something
This has been my go to playlist when it's time to make something or brainstorm ideas while driving since 2015 and it works every time. I've been updating it as I find new songs that fit the mix and have no plans of stopping. The playlist contains many different genres but will appeal most to fans of Tricky, Radiohead, DJ Shadow, Bonobo, Portishead, Gorillaz, Little Dragon, Madlib, Sevdaliza, and Rhye. I did make the above collage image I call "It's Always Sunset On Flamingo Island" while listening to the playlist.
